Who doesn’t love farm fresh eggs? How about hard-boiled eggs?

Have you ever hard-boiled farm fresh eggs? If you have ever done this, you will know exactly what I mean when I say peeling them is a chore. And then, what remains after the peeling, or chipping, is an egg reminiscent of the surface of the moon.  I tried many of the “tricks” found online. Some of the methods were helpful, but I pretty much gave up on the idea of hard-boiled fresh eggs.       

Until the Instant Pot.

With the Instant Pot, hard-boiled eggs are extremely easy to peel. There are many recipes for making them and I tried a few. What I settled on is something referred to as 6-6-6. It means pressure cook for 6 minutes, allow to sit for 6 minutes prior to pressure release, and then place in cold water for 6 minutes.

How to make hard-boiled eggs in the Instant Pot.

  • To begin, place steamer rack or basket in the Instant Pot. Add 1 cup of water to the pot. Place eggs on steam rack.
  • Secure lid onto the Instant Pot and turn the valve to sealing.
  • Set the Instant Pot to pressure cook for 6 minutes. It will take about 7-8 minutes for it to reach pressure and then the timer will begin counting down from 6 minutes.
  • After the 6 minutes, the timer will beep. Wait an additional 6 minutes to release the remaining pressure.
  • Remove the lid and place the eggs in the chilled water for 6 minutes or until chilled. I like to fill a pitcher with cold water and place it in the freezer while the eggs are cooking. Then you can return the pitcher to the freezer or put it in the fridge to chill the eggs. Please note: Hard-cooked egg popsicles are not good. Make sure to remember to remove the egg-filled pitcher from the freezer if you choose to chill them in this way.
  • The eggs are now ready.
  • The process takes roughly 30 minutes from start to finish.
  • A few notes: Use only filtered water for cooking and chilling the eggs. Times may need to be adjusted, use these guidelines as a starting point. I have only cooked a dozen at a time using this technique. However, I have heard from others that you can basically fill the Instant Pot with eggs and still achieve the same results.     This makes it seem pretty simple and less cursing over getting the shell off.

      Oh yes, it definitely reduces the cursing! I had pretty much given up until I discovered this method. 🙂
